Crossing to Laos – two days on the Mekong

In order to make my life easier, I decided to prebook a tour which would bring me from Pai directely to Luang Prabang in Laos. The trip was three days, one day in Minivan and two days on a slowboat on the Mekong river.

The decision was alright even though you surely can arrange this trip on your own – I´m just not sure if it would really be much cheaper and like this, every step was organised. The day in the bus went over quite quickly and early next morning it was time to cross the frontier. This also went well so we finally would get into the boat.

It was not was I expected – I thought this might be a chill out trip where we can walk around, look at the landscape or tan a bit. The longboat itself was full of old bus seats so literally there was almost no space to walk. The wall of the boat was so high, you didn´t see the nature around you while sitting and the noise of the machine was also stunning.

The second day we had another boat which as a bit better – but still, if you have this romantic image of travelling on a boat in your mind – forget it. It was defenitely too crowded! Anyway after three days of travelling I made it savely to Luang Prabang where I spent the upcoming days.
